Definition: The term and fictional lady character of ‘Mary Jane’ is a play on the sound of the pronunciation of “marijuana.”  When pot was more taboo, using the term ‘Mary Jane’ was an undercover way of referring to the plant.  However, as today’s culture grows and matures the taboo nature has dropped.  Also, the term ‘Mary Jane’ has become so popular most everyone knows the reference.

Examples of Mary Jane used in a sentence:

“I think my friend Mary Jane’s parents both went to Woodstock!”

"Hey buddy, have you seen Mary Jane lately? We haven't been stoned in weeks."

"Good ol' Mary Jane, it always hits the spot on a sleepy afternoon."
